These photographs act as portraits - assembled aggregates from recycled aspects of the human condition.Large gourds serve as amorphic building blocks, making up the predominant figure element. Some of these photos assimilate a form of fictional fashion, both in the figure and the settings - Bath Burlesque in L, blending the disturbing with the humorous. Others build more utilitarian forms, embedded with anatomical references - Comfort, A Ways to Go. And still others dwell in the surreal – Wharf. Like the attractive/repellent poles of magnetism, forms produce energy, often erotically charged. When combining these tensions(strangers) into a single form/figure, a visual alchemy occurs, attempting to sensually escape the restrictive control of the intellect, bespeaking more of primal human conditions, truths. It’s all about the imagination, not knowledge.
Much of this work is process based. Constructions are first built, photographed in altered settings, and then uploaded to Photoshop, where the digital construction begins. Depending on the development of the figure and idea, new drawings will be done for the construction and photographing of needed elements, and run back into the digital piece. Some of the images seen here are built from dozens of separate constructions and photographs.
